Head Buyer

Agata & Valentina, one of New York City’s premier Italian specialty food markets is seeking a proactive self starter to join our team as the Head Buyer. The ideal candidate will be a treasure hunter, who is passionate about sourcing and securing the highest quality products at the best prices. The head buyer will manage a team of experienced buyers in a familial atmosphere. The successful candidate will be operationally savvy and a dynamic team player who approaches this position with a great deal of energy and an entrepreneurial spirit. The Head Buyer will assist in the growth of the company which includes opening new stores.



Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years purchasing and supervisory experience

• Specialty and perishable food buying experience a major plus

• Specialty food import and private label experience highly preferred

• Strong negotiation and relationship building skills

• Ability to creatively source, select and develop new products with multiple vendors

• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

• Must be very detailed with attention to follow-up and follow through

• Work well under pressure and meet deadlines

• Experience in computerized purchase order systems and with Microsoft Office

• Effectively deal with all levels of management

• Strong analytical skills

• Occasional travel to food shows in the US and Europe

• Italian language a plus
